CIF Round Two, Lest We Forget, Jack Drum Arts

This project was a collaboration between three Youth Theatres from the Northern Heartlands area: Jackass (Crook), Turrets (Barnard Castle) and WASH (Bishop Auckland). Young people from the three groups worked together to produce a site specific outdoor promenade performance, “Dulce et Decorum Est”, inspired by real stories from local communities during WWI performed at Hamsterley Forest in November 2018. During the project the young people had the opportunity to work alongside professional artists, actors, musicians, history and heritage experts to research, develop, and perform the new outdoor show using a local forest setting as the venue.  The young people were supported to:-

  • research archive material at the DLI, DCRO and Bowes Museum
  • Meet older members of the community including ex-military personnel to learn their stories
  • Have a residentia
  • Take part in acting and script-writing masterclasses
  • Share their learning with their community
