CIF Round Two – Remembering and Valuing Through Art, Thornley and Weardale, Thornley Village Hall
This Project engaged an artist to work with the Thornley Art Group to capture the history and beauty of the area through the local stories and legends around this part of the Weardale. The aim was to help local people value and celebrate this wonderful area but also to mark the changes which have taken place over the last 150 years. The Village Hall closed as a school 51 years ago and the building was given to the community for a community centre. There are stories about the pupils, staff and parents in 100 years of its existence. The project explored these and other related stories through art to link history, landscape and heritage and show its relevance to the community today. An exhibition was presented in the Village Hall and then entries were submitted into the art section of the Wolsingham Agricultural Show with an explanation of the project.
